people are dumb. proof of this: lubbock is building a new freeway. to make the road more aesthetically pleasing, they decided to add panels with the image above on them. a panel of lubbockites worked together with txdot to come up with the "windy man". here's where it gets dumb. certain citizens are outraged because they claim it's a graven image, going against the word of God. there have been for too many letters to the editor claiming that a christian city shouldn't have pagan images gracing the roadways. when people build altars and pray before the "windy man", then people can tell me it's sacrilige.

another complaint people have about the "windy man" is that it reinforces a negative stereotype about lubbock. i hate to break it to them, but the wind in lubbock is just a fact of nature, not a stereotype.

sadly, some over-zealous nut took a sledge hammer and destroyed the only panel that had been installed so far. way to destroy any progress lubbock may have made to remove the back-woods closed-minded hick image it has in the rest of the state.
